weather data retrieval
Published on January 2, 2010 By machinehd In OS Customization

Has anyone else noticed that as of Jan 1st, the METAR data doesn't work for most sites to retrieve weather info? Almost every site responds with a Parse error. I've R&R'd Sysmetrix thinking it may be a corrupt data file but the problem persists.  I read some forums saying it's possibly the Weather Channel but Sysmetrix retrieves it's data from NOAA. Does anyone have a line of why this is happening?  NOAA's weather site still uses the same 4-character METAR codes and they don't mention any changes.

Thanks for the info. I'm using Rainmeter right now, but I also want to try Sysmetrix, just want to see which program I like better.

Yeah, CPU Activity doesn't work. Free RAM does, even with 4 GB and 64bit.

Hi C242 - it's been a long time!

I finally got a Windows 7 machine and fixed the TCP/IP stats that were broken on Vista/Windows 7.  I also noticed problems with > 2GB of memory, so fixed that as well.  Can you give me more information on what's not working with the CPU?  Is it completely broken, or is it just that it can't report on multiple cores?  Also, are you running a 64-bit OS?  Anything else that I can use to track it down would be helpful.

Thanks in advance,

Nick

Hi ya Nick.

I'm running Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit.  I don't see that it shows multiple core CPU information.

Will the fix for memory greater that 2GB fix the virtual and page file information?  I have 8GB of memory.

Great program, have been uisng it since I found Stardock, a little over five years.

I'm just a user of it and don't skin for it.  I will link to some of the other folks that have so they can give you some usefull comments.

I appreciate that you are updating it.

Nick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great to see you here in the land of the living....and Sysmetrix too.

Computers kinda advanced a bit since your wee holiday....8 cores...way more than 2gig of ram [12 here] ...Windows 7 .... 64bit architecture....

I had to dump my 'meters' for ram and CPU use...they weren't playing nice.

If you can drag Sysmetrix screaming into the third Millennium there's a whole bunch of people who will be eternally grateful....

PM me your home addy and I'll mail you a donation....

Hi Nick, thanks for updating sysmetrix, is by far my favourite desktop gadget. I have vista 64 bit, do you see an upgrade for the future so sysmetrix runs compatable with 64bit? that would be awsome for me, and for my skinning.

I truly appreciate you coming to the forum here and posting, its like a ray of light!!

I want to donate too....... pm me your details as well......i love sysmetrix soooo much, i cant live without it!! and I lurve skinning it too.. xxxx

Ditto.

Ram doesn't notice anything unless I run win7 also in vmware with 4gig allocated....then the host sysmetrix shows something of a hit.

on Feb 09, 2010

Oh, I will test that whe I get my new machine with 6 GB.

on Feb 09, 2010

Ok, I think I've got the CPU, Memory, and TCP/IP stuff fixed   I'll do some more testing and see if there are any other problems with Windows 7.  My plan is to do another release in the next couple of weeks.  By then we'll have a Windows 7 compliant version of SysMetrix and a new Website to host it!

Now that sounds great.

Once that is all done maybe what would be needed or nice is some kind of SysMetrix skinning clinic or contest.

Hey Jafo!

Wow - sounds like you've got a helluva system!  Wanna trade?   Sorry about the extended absence - having kids ends up taking away all of your free time.   Who'd have thought?  At any rate, I'm planning on putting out a new version in the next couple of weeks that will take care of all of those little problems with Windows 7 and Windows Vista.  I'll post back when it's ready for download!

Intel i7 920 2.66Ghz LGA1366 CPU

Great little CPU, can be easilly overclocked to 4 Ghz and, in some cases, even beyond. Mine is at 4 Ghz and, for a while, had it stable at 4.2 Ghz - but I didn't like the max temperatures (even with the Noctua NH-U12P SE2 brick as a cooler) when running Prime95 for extended periods of time.

Anyway, hi Nick! Glad to see you back too.
